"I want to give the same career opportunity to those less fortunate; to those who are willing to put in hard work and take a chance to better themselves." Letter from the Founder
Thank you for taking the time to learn of our mission. I am a native San Franciscan raised by parents that were extremely engaged in the San Francisco Community, emphasizing volunteering and giving back as a daily commitment. Serving on church, hospital and school boards, there was not a moment my parents didn't focus on others. With such examples, I too, followed the path of volunteering for many organizations throughout my career. I found volunteering infectious. Try helping someone less fortunate, take a moment from your day to say hello, you may be surprised to find your personal troubles and complaints become far less significant. One of my important mantras has become: "help others succeed." At 31 years old, I fell into the insurance industry. I imagined this being just a way-station to a bigger opportunity but to my surprise, I found the insurance industry to be interesting and intriguing. My wonderful mentors, Don Sweet and Bruce Baker, founded our agency Sweet & Baker Insurance Brokers in 1951. The owners exemplified compassion, expertise and thoughtfulness not only for their customers, but also their employees. I quickly came to realize that the insurance industry wasn't just a job but was a career. Steady pay, full benefits and learning something new everyday. Twenty Four years later, I gratefully look back and appreciate how fortunate my family and I are to have had such a steady, stable business and income. With the intersection of my long career in insurance and my love of helping others, the creation of San Francisco Insurance Academy seemed obvious. I want to to give the same career opportunity to those less fortunate; to those who are willing to put in hard work and take a chance to better themselves. |
